If I attended on of those churches I would have to start cutting my toenails!

Jeremy, bad mental picture.

I had a pedicure once, but never in church.

I wonder if the protocol is to wash your feet before church when you know there's a footwashing service. Of course, there's most likely a whole group that would view that as inauthentic, so they come just as they are... athletes foot, toenails etc.

Seriously, I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who actually practices this ritual currently. Do you find it helpful?

You can't really do this right unless you are walking around first century palestine - you know, where people emptied their potty water into each morning, and everyone walked through it in sandles... Cleaning a fella's foot back then was the job of the lowest slave for a reason - it was a disgusting job.

Not that it is much better nowadays.

literally, Daniel is right...and thus the point made.

I have been a member of a church (there are actually several denominations who currently do) that had footwashing services, and to this day, I believe that to be the best example of ones who "love the brethren" that I have ever seen.

Is that the reason why ? I don't know...but it sure couldn't hurt.
Very humbling.

Dude,

We had some fanatics at our church attempt to pull this off once in the college group. They did it, we had a night of "feet washing and prayer". Weirdest thing ever.

The question I posed to them was... "How is this relevant for today? Our feet are no where near as dirty as 2000 years ago. You want to do something of the lowest service, go repair poor peoples houses, or something you won't get recognized for."
